This infographic was created as part of my studies under the overarching theme Freedom. It explores the phenomenon of hikikomori and translates a complex social topic into a clear and accessible visual narrative.
The illustration forms the centre of the composition: a young person alone in a small room, overwhelmed and enclosed by their surroundings. Shown in a two-point perspective, the space reflects isolation and emotional pressure. Statistical information surrounds the figure, visually enclosing them and reinforcing the sense of being trapped by facts and expectations.
The design uses a muted, reduced colour palette inspired by Japanese graphic traditions, as well as subtle gradients reminiscent of woodblock prints. Typography and illustration are kept minimal and restrained, with a focus on clarity and atmosphere rather than dramatization. The infographic aims to communicate information quietly and thoughtfully, allowing space for reflection.
